The final screening of U-12 World Challenge Cup which put together by Iganmu Football Club of Lagos led by Micheal Egbayelo has been suspended indefinitely.

Igannmu Football Academy won the last edition of U-12 World Challenge Cup in Tokyo and they are preparing to defend the title this year. The final screening which supposed to hold in Ado- Ekiti on 15 April would allow the coaching crew led by Technical Director, Augustine Eguaveon, a former Super Eagles coach to select best that will represent the club in this year’s edition.

Due to the Conoravirus disease that is ravaging the world including Nigeria, the club final screening which supposed to be held in April in Ado Ekiti- Polytechnic, Ekiti State has been put on hold.

Chairman of Iganmu Football Club of Lagos, Egbayelo said that there is need for him to suspend the final screening as a result of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF directives which state that all football activities are to be suspended indefinitely in the country for now.

“ I have consulted  Ekiti State Football Association concerning our final screening in Ado- Ekiti, what they told was that the screening cannot hold  at the stipulated date because the Nigeria Football Federation has given all states football Association to suspend football activities so I need to suspend it for now and wait the time everything would be normalized,” he said.

Meanwhile, Egbayelo said that the final screening is necessary to select 15 best players that will represent Iganmu Football Academy in this year’s U-12 Challenge Cup in Tokyo.

He explained that Eguaveon and other football scouts from Europe would conduct the screening exercise saying that only the players that play to expectations of the coaching crew led by Eguaveon would be considered for Japan trip.

Egbeyelo explained that he had single-handedly sponsored the team to Japan last year without the assistance from Lagos State Football Association, Nigeria Football Federation NFF and corporate bodies.

“I personally sponsored the team to Japan with my money, no government support, no corporate support and individual failed to assist us. The expectation is high for this year because of our victory last year.U-12 Barcelona teams have been the champions for the past three years before our feat last year. The Lagos FA and NFF knew about the tournament so we are expecting them to come to our aid this year, “he said.
