Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad have arrested seven dismissed soldiers, who formed a robbery gang terrorising the innocent people in Lagos State and recovered some exhibits including woman’s pant.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects were arrested in various areas in the State following complaints from the residents of Ijegun, Lagos, over the activities of the unknown gang, which had been terrorising innocent people for some time this year.
Thus, the Police operatives went into action and identified some of the suspects which included Ndidi Oluchukwu, 30, Owolabi Adeyemo, 42, David Olufemi, 47, Iseyin Samuel Isreal, 41, Emeka Ibeh, 29, Samuel Anochime, 36 and Ebedot Stephen, 27. The Police also recovered some arms and exhibits suspected to have been stolen from the victims.
This was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu, who paraded the suspects with other suspected criminals in Lagos.
The Police boss stated that the Command had received a lot of distress calls from residence of Ijegun and environs about the activities of some armed robbers, who operated in military uniforms. He said that one of such incidents happened on 18th February, 2019, at about 1635hours, where a commuter, who was travelling to Ibadan from Ijegun was accosted by the said armed robbers, who dispossessed him of his black coloured Lexus car RX330 at gun point.
CP Muazu said that it was on the strength of those complaints that he tasked the SARS operatives to identify the gang and apprehend them. He said that members of the robbery gang were arrested at Ijegun, Baruwa Estate, Ipaja, Iyana-Ipaja, Ishashi, Ikotun and other areas in the state.
He said that investigation revealed that the suspects were dismissed soldiers. Items recovered from them included: twelve pairs of Military camouflage uniforms, two cutlasses, ATM cards, Military ID cards, jack knives, a female pant and a local ring.
During the parade, the suspects confessed to being responsible for series of robberies within Ijegun and its environs; they were dismissed from the Nigerian military, they formed a gang and began operations in the State.
CP Muazu said that the suspects will be charged to Court after conclusion of investigations.
