There was mild drama at the court when an 82-year old man, Ayoade Omobolaji was arraigned and sent to prison over alleged rape of a 13-year old girl.

Pa Omobolaji lamented that the police and the court have no respect for old age and that was why they have the effrontery to send him to prison.

However, the litigants present in court replied him that he should have respected his old age instead of coming to court with such serious allegation against him. He quickly kept quiet to the amusement of litigants.

The Octogenarian was arrested by the police at Igando Division for allegedly defiling the victim by forcefully penetrating her and in the process inflicted injury on her private.

The incident happened at Amosun Street in Obadare in the outskirts of Lagos where the suspect and the victim’s parents reside.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Pa Omobolaji lured the victim into his apartment under the false pretence of sending her on an errand. However, when she entered his apartment he locked the door from inside and pulled his clothes.

He forcefully removed the victim’s pant, forced her on his bed and raped her. Thereafter, he allowed her to go but warned her not to tell anyone about it. But by then she was bleeding from her private. The victim reported what happened to her parents and showed them the bleeding from her private.

The matter was reported to the police at Igando Division. The suspect was arrested and he reportedly admitted that he slept with her but with her consent and not rape.

The police charged him before Ikeja Magistrates court for the alleged offence.

He pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 21 November, 2017. It was while he was being taken to prison custody that he lamented that the police and the judiciary have no respect for elders.
