The Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Olanrewaju Ayodeji Oyegbola-Sodipo (LOS), has continued to reinforce his administration’s commitment to purposeful grassroots governance through a combination of impactful infrastructure delivery, progressive legislative reforms, and broad-based stakeholder engagement aimed at promoting sustainable development across the Local Government Area.
The administration recently recorded another significant milestone with the commissioning of several landmark projects across the sixteen wards and four major communities of Abeokuta North.
The projects, covering education, healthcare, rural electrification, potable water supply, sanitation, road infrastructure, and public facilities, underscore the administration’s determination to improve the quality of life of residents through people-centred governance.
The commissioning ceremony also received a major endorsement from the Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, who commended the Oyegbola-Sodipo administration for its impressive grassroots development drive.
The Commissioner described the extensive investments in schools, water infrastructure, sanitation facilities, and council assets as practical demonstrations of responsive governance and alignment with the developmental vision of the Ogun State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON.
Beyond infrastructure development, the administration has strengthened the institutional framework for sustainable development through the assent to the Abeokuta North Local Government Bye-Law on Livestock Grazing and Herders Registration, which prohibits open grazing, provides for the compulsory registration of herders and livestock owners, and establishes a regulatory framework for responsible livestock management within the Local Government Area.
Recognising that successful implementation of public policy requires public understanding and ownership, the Local Government also convened a comprehensive stakeholders’ sensitisation programme involving traditional rulers, community leaders, security agencies, farmers, herders, market associations, transport unions, youth representatives, and other critical stakeholders.
The engagement provided an opportunity to educate participants on the provisions and objectives of the new bye-law while also sensitising residents on other important regulations relating to the prohibition of indiscriminate waste disposal, unauthorised encroachment on government property, and the illegal occupation of public lands.
Speaking on the initiatives, Hon. Oyegbola-Sodipo reiterated that sustainable development goes beyond the execution of physical projects.
“Development is not measured solely by the number of projects we execute. It is equally reflected in the institutions we build, the laws we enact, and the level of public understanding and ownership we create. Our approach has always been to carry our people along because lasting development can only be achieved through partnership between government and the people.”
He explained that the livestock regulation is designed to promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders, strengthen public safety, protect agricultural investments, and preserve the environment, while the sensitisation programme reflects the administration’s belief that consultation, dialogue, and civic responsibility are indispensable to effective governance.
The Chairman further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing policies that encourage investment, improve public health, protect public assets, promote environmental sustainability, and create a secure environment for residents and businesses.
Hon. Oyegbola-Sodipo expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his administration’s efforts at strengthening governance and security across the country, and to Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, for his unwavering support for grassroots development and the enabling environment provided for local governments to deliver meaningful dividends of democracy.
Since assuming office, the Oyegbola-Sodipo administration has consistently prioritised infrastructure renewal, human capital development, youth empowerment, healthcare, education, environmental management, institutional reforms, and community security as the key pillars of its governance agenda.
With the successful execution and commissioning of landmark projects, the enactment of progressive local legislation, and sustained engagement with critical stakeholders, Abeokuta North continues to emerge as a model of responsive, inclusive, and sustainable grassroots governance in Ogun State.
