Abule-Egba Fire: Senator Adeola Bemoans Recurrence

The Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District and Chairman of Senate Committee on  Finance, Senator Solomon Adeola, has lamented the recurrence of pipeline explosions in his senatorial district without relevant agencies doing anything proactively to curb the menace arising from vandalisation of exposed pipelines in densely populated areas as yet another incidence occurred in Abule Egba yesterday.

While commiserating with constituents who suffered huge losses and condoling the families of those that lost their lives in yet another pipeline explosion at Ile Epo and Oke-Odo in Abule Egba axis of Alimosho Local Government, the Senator recalled that he moved a motion last year on the floor of the Senate leading to Senate Resolution and a visit to the site of one of such explosion by a Senate Ad Hoc Committee adding that it is regrettable that another one has occurred in less than a year in the same area  while the report of the Committee is before the Senate consideration and action.

The Senator, who was pained at the magnitude of the frequent  loss and apprehension for  constituents, condemned economic saboteurs that  engaged in oil bunkering through vandalisation of oil pipelines to steal petroleum products stressing that their criminal activities has resulted in major losses for fellow citizens living their peaceful lives in legitimate endeavors.

“I want to again commend the emergency services of the Lagos State and Federal Government for their efforts in always rising to the occasion in curtailing the magnitude of the destruction that would have resulted had these explosions. Without their efforts it is possible that many lives would have been lost beyond the reported cases of about two or three persons. The NNPC and related agencies should also look for a lasting solution to monitor, detect and prevent these explosions” he stated.

Senator Adeola called on the security agencies particularly the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NCDSC) to intensify measures to prevent vandals engaged in the nefarious activities that resulted in the fire incident stressing that National Emergency Management Agency and its state counterpart should provide palliative measures to those affected to cushion their losses.
