LUCKY LAWAL

The newly elected president of the University of Osun Alumni Association Aboderin Ademuyiwa has advice his fellow contestants in the just concluded association’s election to shun malicious character assassination, accept the outcome of the election and receive his hand of fellowship for the peace and progress of the university.

Reacting to the publication on Monday,7th of May, 2018 by a non registered NGO, People’s Advocacy Vanguard, who Aduragbemi alleged to have published falsehood in the newspapers and online platforms to mislead the public that the electoral process that brought him in as the newly elected president of the Osun Alumni was marred with irregularities and called on the university to annul the election.

Mr. Aboderin who stated that his victory as the newly elected President of the Osun Alumni came as a big shock to his opponent who has run the Alumni for seven years unopposed. Narrating on the electoral process he said, “On the 28th of April, we held our alumni association’s congress at the main campus Oke Baale Osogbo. We were three contestants for the post of President, myself Aboderin Ademuyiwa Aduragbemi, Oriola Oladipupo, and Ijoba Idris. At the venue of the Congress, 88 members were accredited while 81 cast their votes. After the voting, the following results were received by the electoral chairman Mr. Owolabi Ayasanmi: Aboderin Ademuyiwa – 33 votes, Oriola Oladipupo – 30 vote, and Ijoba Idris – 07 votes”

“By the guidelines of our constitution which is on article 15Ax, victory at the election shall be by simple majority. The electoral chairman declared me Aboderin Ademuyiwa Aduragbemi as the winner and the newly elected President with immediate effect”

Reacting to the allegations in the said publication, Mr. Aduragbemi said he has contacted his lawyer to sue those behind the publication. He said, “I want to state clearly that this information is false. The election was conducted under a free, fair and peaceful environment and all the aspirants were screened. In fact, the electoral chairman, Mr. Owolabi is an icon of transparency and accountability. Let me also clear the air on allegations that the university management was instrumental to my electoral victory. I do not know anyone in the university management and as a matter of fact the management did not contribute anything to our Congress process except the hall they gave us free for the election. I am a graduate of Economics with second class upper Division from Osun State University and currently a student of postgraduate studies in Economics at University of Lagos, Akoka Yaba, Lagos. I currently work with Planet Projects Ltd (transportation infrastructure, engineering and procurement organisation. My advice to fellow contestants is for them to stay away from malicious character assassination  and receive the hand of fellowship that I have extended. Our association and the university at this stage need everyone to come together for us to achieve meaningful development”
