The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party winner of the Osun State governorship election.

Adeleke secured re-election after polling 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 444,815 votes.

The victory gives Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, announced the result on Sunday at the INEC state collation centre in Osogbo, after collation was completed across the state’s 30 Local Government Areas.

According to the final figures:
– Ademola Adeleke, Accord Party: 511,067 votes
– Bola Oyebamiji, APC: 444,815 votes
– Najeem Salaam, ADC: 17,180 votes

The ADC candidate finished in third place.

In his reaction, Governor Adeleke thanked President Bola Tinubu, saying the President had called to congratulate him.

“I want to seize this opportunity to thank Mr. President. He has called me and he has congratulated me. Thank you Mr. President for making sure democracy lives on because you fought for it,” Adeleke said.

He described his re-election as a victory for democracy and for the people of Osun State.

With the declaration by INEC, Governor Adeleke will serve a second term in office.

Final certificates of return are expected to be issued to the Governor-elect and his deputy in the coming days.
