Adonte Community Cries Out To Okowa Over Poor Roads

The people of Andote, an agrarian community in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, have appealed to the State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, to come to their aid by providing them with a well tarred motorable road.

They made the appeal at the weekend through Pastor Austin Okocha, the public relations officer of Adonte Development Union (ADU).

According to Okocha who is also the founder of Pathway Of Life Ministries, Lagos, said that the people of the town had suffered so much since the founding of the town by Aniga, who legend said migrated from Benin ancient kingdom, with his fellow siblings that founded Ubulu Uku, Ubulu Unor centuries ago, as a result of the bad road.

“To say that we have suffered and still agonizing because of the issue of this bad road is an understatement. In fact, we never had a road since the founding of this town. What I can safely say we have is a footpath or what they call bush path and no government in the history of Nigeria, right from when the town was in Western or Midwestern regions through to Bendel State, till now that we are under Delta State have ever looked our side.

“There is absolutely no government presence in the town, what we can call the only primary and secondary schools in the Adonte are completely run down despite the town’s intervention through ADU. The only maternity in the town is in a bad shape, no electricity supply, the water facility that was started in the military days of the first military governor of the state is abandoned. In fact, Adonte is in ruin, I dare to say. And we need Governor Okowa to come to our aid especially in the area of road because he is not called roadmaster for nothing.

The Clergy continues; “Many have died in this village because of lack of road to take them to hospitals in neigbouring towns like Ogwashi Uku and Ishagu when they are in critical medical condition. Our pregnant women pass through hell in search of access to medical facility when they are in labour. When it rains the road is flooded and when it is dry period, you think you are in a beach land because of the sandy nature of the road. The last self help effort the town tried to do on the road was in February 2018 when the road was graded but as I speak to you, it has gone bad again.

The community then pleaded with Governor Okowa to come to their aid like he has to for other towns in the state.
