When African Soccer Legends Storm Lagos For Ambode, It’ll Be Fanfare At Agege Stadium, Says Akanni

Football fans have been promised an exciting time on 18th May, 2019, as top rated African soccer legends including the Liberian President George Weah  storm Agege Stadium, to celebrate the outgoing Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode.

Aptly tagged ‘The Match’ and organized by ex- Nigerian internationals including, Samson Siasia, Augustine Eguavoen, Waidi Akanni and Mutiu Adepoju, under the auspices of ‘The Match International’, it is to celebrate the untold excellence achieved by the administration of Akinwunmi Ambode, particularly, in the sports sector.

According to the Chairman of The Match International, Waidi Akanni, the eagerly awaited event is expected to inspire others in governance and corporate world to work harder towards contributing their quotas to national development.

“The decision to celebrate Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is no brainer. He has performed excellently well and particular in sports, as he has continued to provide facilities for sports to thrive in the state and also making the state the hub of sporting activities in Sub- Saharan Africa,” Akanni enthused.

“Celebrating Ambode, will surely inspire and encourage others to emulate his good works. He is without doubt a man of excellence and honour, worthy of celebration,” he remarked.

Akanni, a former chairman of Lagos Football Association, LSFA, further restated the readiness of the organizers to host the top African soccer legends and their Nigerian counterparts, as well as, distinguished guests on the day. He also reassured that top notch logistics and security arrangements have been put in place to have a hitch free event.

“This farewell football match would also be a great opportunity for Nigerians to see some of their African soccer idols in live action here, in Lagos.

“There would also be musical performances by Olamide, Small Doctor and others on the day. We shall also be using this event to raise funds and galvanize support for several charity bodies,” he added.

He went ahead to confirm the appearance of African and Nigerian soccer legends at the event to include, Yaya Toure, Diomansy Kamara, Peterside Idah, Geremi Njitap, Michael Essien, Lomana Lua- Lua, Samuel Eto, Didier Zokora, Kader Keita, Richard Kingston, Christian Karembu, El- Hadji Diouf.

Others include, Peter Rufai, Finidi George, Mutiu Adepoju, Samson Siasia, Augustine Eguavoen, Joseph Yobo, Ike Shorunmu, Kanu Nwankwo, Austin Jay- Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi, Emmanuel Amunike, Phillip Shuaibu( Deputy Governor, Edo State), Taribo West, Victor Ezeji, Tijani Babangida, Emma Okocha, Ifeanyi Udeze, Uche Okechukwu and Garba Lawal.
