There was confusion at Omolola Street in Itire, Lagos when an agent, Akeem Olaniyan rented out a room and parlour apartment to three tenants who attempted to move into the same apartment at the same time.
The tenants, Francis Hope, Taiwo Gbolahan and Ifeanyi Ukakwe paid for the apartment and tried to move at the same time only to discover that they have all paid for the same apartment.
The 43-year old agent, Olaniyan, who reside at 6 Ronke Street in Itire, was then arrested and charged before a Lagos court for obtaining and stealing from the suspects under the Criminal code.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Olaniyan put the apartment for rent and secretly collected money from them and handed each a single key to the apartment.
According to the police, Olaniyan obtained N227,000 from Hope at the same time obtained N134,000 from Ifeanyi Ukakwe and N160,000 from Taiwo Gbolahan total about N520.000 and bolted away after handed them separate keys to the apartment.
However, trouble started when the victims brought their properties to the house in order to take possession only to meet themselves.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the victims did not allow any of them to take possession which means two other victims will lose their money.
When Olaniyan was contacted, he told the victims to sort themselves out and that whoever won should occupy the place. It was in the midst of this confusion that the police was contacted and arrested Olaniyan, while the apartment was locked up.
Olaniyan was charged before Isolo Magistrate’s court where he pleaded not guilty.
He was granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.K. Shonubi ordered him to remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail.
The matter was adjourned till 7 March 2017.
