CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
The death of a serving Air Force Officer, Sergeant Inyang Isaiah, may have exposed the havoc motorcycle operators were causing at night on Lagos highways due to illegal operations.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the late Isaiah was crushed to death by a rider, Onemheghie Elijah, who was said to be driven on the BRT lane along PWD in Shogunle area of Lagos.
It was gathered that the victim was crossing to the other side of the road at about 10pm on the highway not knowing that the rider was plying on the lane. Before he would apply break, he lost control, hit the victim and he was badly injured. He was rushed to the hospital but he died on the way before the doctor would attend to him. The corpse was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy report.
The rider, Isaiah was arrested and later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for murder by operating on the restricted route and causing the death of late Isaiah.
The Police alleged that Elijah on 29th May, 2019, being the rider of Sinoki Super motorcycle with registration number, AKD 706 QD, caused the death of the victim.
The prosecutor, Inspector Kenrich, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP because it was a case of murder before he would face trial.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. T.O. Ojo, ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody without an option of bail.
The Court directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice. The matter was adjourned till 22nd August, 2019 for report of the DPP to be ready.
