Airtel Upgrades 6 Primary Schools

Airtel Nigeria has renovated and upgraded six primary schools in Nigeria to ultra-modern ones, the Managing Director, Mr Segun Ogunsanya, has said.

Ogunsanya made the disclosure at the opening of the upgraded Yahaya Hamza Primary School, Zaria, Kaduna State on Wednesday.

The primary school was renovated, upgraded and adopted by Airtel Nigeria as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Ogunsanya said other schools upgraded by the company include; Oremeji Primary School II, Ajegunle, Lagos State, St. John’s Primary School, Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State and Community Primary School, Amumara in Imo.

Others, he said, are Iyeru Okin Primary School, Ilara-Mokin, Kwara and Presbyterian Primary School, Ediba, in Cross River.

“Over the years, Airtel has brought notable transformation to these schools by providing ultra-modern blocks of classrooms and borehole for portable water.

“It also donated classroom furniture, uniforms, bags and educational materials such as books, textbooks and pens on yearly basis.

“It is a complete package, not a one year wonder, but a continuing partnership,” he said.

Ogunsanya assured that all students of Yahaya Hamza Primary school would get a complete set of uniform, bags, and books.

“Today, I have the special privileged to present to you, the new Yahaya Hamza Primary School – refurbished six blocks, 12 classrooms complete with desk and chairs and two teachers’ offices.

“Also in the project are 12 white boards, borehole facility, four toilets for male and female students and the teachers,” he said.

Inaugurating the school, Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i of Kaduna state, appreciated Airtel for what he described as a giant stride toward uplifting education in the state.

He recalled that when he assumed office in 2015, 50 per cent of Kaduna State pupils were sitting on the floor to learn.

El-Rufa’i appealed to other companies to emulate the good gesture of Airtel to collectively rescue the dwindling standard of education in the state.

Earlier, the Emir of Zazzau, Dr Shehu Idris commended Airtel for the gesture and asked for its sustenance.

He charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the edifice for the good of the society and generation yet unborn.
