Aisha Buhari Wins African Empowerment Legend Award

In recognition of her efforts to empower Nigerian women, Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has been honoured as African Empowerment Legend.
The award ceremony was organized by the Wife of the Governor of Katsina State, Hajiya Zakiyya Masari on Tuesday 12 December in Daura, Katsina State.
Speaking on why Mrs. Buhari is deserving of the award, Mrs. Masari said the recipient exudes qualities which are exceptional and worthy of emulation by people in positions of responsibility.
She said Mrs. Buhari has been making donations to victims of insurgency and other disasters, helping the underprivileged, supporting and creating awareness for education and health thereby complementing government policy and encouraging the spread of philantropic spirit among privileged Nigerians.
Mrs Masari also spoke on Mrs. Buhari’s aversion for corruption, quoting her dictum that without corruption, there would be enough resources to cater for the needs of all Nigerians.
Receiving the award, Mrs. Buhari thanked her host for the award and said it will propel her to do more, calling on stakeholders to improve the situation of women in Nigeria.
Earlier in the day, Mrs. Buhari commissioned a Maternity Complex.
She also commissioned Muhammadu Buhari School for Science and Arabic Studies Daura, where she is sponsoring the education of 60 pupils.
In line with her empowerment drive, she also empowered over 500 youths with Sewing Machines, Grinding Machines, Spiralizers and Tricycles at a separate event.
Mrs. Buhari was supported at the events by Governors of Zamfara, Imo and Kebbi states, wives of the Senate President and Speaker of the House; Mrs. Toyin Saraki and Gimbiya Dogara respectively as well as 14 wives of governors among other dignitaries.
