The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), alongside the Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, Hon. Vinod Obasa, today carried out an inspection of Akin Doherty Road with a view to commencing a collaborative reconstruction of the road.

The essence of the inspection was to assess the condition of the road and explore modalities for a joint intervention by both local governments, as the road serves as a boundary between Ikeja and Agege Local Government Areas.

For years, Akin Doherty Road has remained in a deplorable condition, causing severe traffic congestion, loss of productive man-hours, and hardship for commuters, residents, and businesses operating within the Guinness axis and adjoining communities.

Present during the inspection were council engineers from both local governments, private engineers engaged for technical assessment, the Council Manager of Agege Local Government, Chief Sogo, and other key officials.

Speaking during the inspection, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD) reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure across Ikeja and ensuring that residents enjoy better road networks.

“The condition of Akin Doherty Road has become a source of concern to residents, business owners, and road users. As a responsive government, we cannot continue to watch our people suffer. This inspection marks the beginning of a strategic partnership between Ikeja and Agege Local Governments to deliver a lasting solution. We are determined to ensure that this road is reconstructed to ease movement, boost economic activities, and improve the quality of life of our people.”

In his remarks, Hon. Vinod Obasa commended the spirit of collaboration between both councils, noting that development thrives when neighbouring local governments work together for the common good.

This road is of immense importance to both Agege and Ikeja residents. The challenges faced by users of this road require collective action, and that is why we are here today. Our administration is fully committed to this partnership, and together we will ensure that Akin Doherty Road receives the attention it deserves. The welfare and convenience of our people remain our priority.

The inspection concluded with technical evaluations by engineers from both councils, who are expected to submit recommendations that will guide the reconstruction process.
