The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, has mandated the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Gloria Edet, to immediately establish agriculture depots in the three senatorial districts of the state.
The Commissioner has also been mandated to take strategic steps to cause the prices of garri and rice to be reduced drastically for the interest of the general populace and in preparation for the Yuletide.
The mandate was part of the decisions reached at the meeting of the Executive Council of the Akwa Ibom State Government, chaired by Governor Udom Emmanuel at Government House, Uyo on Wednesday.
In a release signed by the Akwa Ibom State Honourable Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, and made available to newsmen at the end of the EXCO meeting, Council further directed the ministry of Agriculture to immediately commence large scale commercial onion production, drawing from their experience during the experimental onion cultivation already executed.
The State Government also communicated a decision to declare the post of the General Manager of Akwa Ibom Water Company vacant and to advertise same.
Council also directed that “That the State COVID-19 Task Force should continue to maintain strict surveillance on COVID -19 spread, in the light of its global resurgence. An action plan for Risk Communication and Community Engagement was presented and reviewed.
“The Next State Executive Council meeting will be dedicated to Education issues, specifically to receive and discuss the 10 year Education roadmap drawn from the Education Summit 2019.”
