Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki Pleads Guilty: A Breakdown Of The Charges

In a dramatic turn of events, popular native doctor Chidozie Nwangwu, also known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, has pleaded guilty to charges brought against him by the Anambra State Government. The high-profile traditionalist pleaded guilty to the offence of administering Okeite charms for people for accumulation of wealth by unlawful means and others, under a Plea Bargain in order to get a lesser punishment. He was convicted by Hon. Justice Jude Obiora at the Anambra State High Court in Awka, marking a significant milestone in the state’s fight against superstition and organized crime.

 

The Charges involve assisting his customers to commit the offence of obtaining by false pretence through the okeite pot charms and practicing “Oke Ite” rituals for money making through unlawful means

Following a plea bargain agreement, Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki was convicted on counts three, four, five, six, seven, and eight, while counts one, two, nine, and ten were struck out. He has been remanded to serve 11 months’ imprisonment at the Awka Correctional Center having been in custody for 13 months already, instead of the six year jail term prescribed by law

The Sentence:

In addition to his imprisonment, Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki will:

– Serve as an ambassador for youth re-orientation and entrepreneurship on a monthly basis
– Have his Oba shrine destroyed
– Make a public statement denouncing Oke Ite and similar practices upon completion of his sentence

The native doctor’s guilty plea marks a significant victory for the Anambra State Government in its efforts to combat superstition and promote a more rational and enlightened society.
