All Set For CORFEPS Week 2024 With Igali, Ali & Adegoroye As Discussants

All is now set for CORFEPS WEEK 2024 with Ambassador Godknows Igali OON, Ammuna Lawan Ali OON and Dr Goke Adegoroye OON as distinguished discussants at the annual gathering of the Council of Retired Federal Permanent Secretaries. 

The Council of Retired Federal Permanent Secretaries (CORFEPS), is a body duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, with membership comprising of top civil servants who retired after attaining the grade of Permanent Secretary and higher. Their Motto is: “Continuing Patriotic Service”. Chief Philip Asiodu, CON who currently sits as Chairman of the Board of Trustees was the foundation Chairman of the Council. He was succeeded by the late Mrs Francesca Yetunde Emanuel, CON the first female federal Permanent Secretary as the immediate past Chairman. The current Chairman is Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, CFR a former Federal Permanent Secretary and retired Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, who upon retirement from the civil service was appointed Minister of Defence and later Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Pursuant to its aims and objectives, CORFEPS under its current Chairman has decided to institute the CORFEPS WEEK as a yearly event preferably in the first quarter of each year, commencing this year where, in addition to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) as stipulated in its Articles of Association, members will focus on an issue of national importance which will be exhaustively discussed with a view to providing recommendations on the way forward.

The CORFEPS WEEK this year has been slated for 5-7 March 2024 and it is coming at an opportune period to enable us celebrate one of the icons of the Nigerian Civil Service, Izoma Philip Asiodu, founding Chairman of CORFEPS and Chairman of the Council’s Board of Trustees, who was 90 years old on 26 February 2024. The National Chairman Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, CFR and the First National Vice Chairman Engr. Ebele Okeke, CFR were with him as he marked his birthday with due modesty and class, both in tune with his own life style and ethics as a quintessential civil servant, and as an example to the nation, in a Luncheon at the Metropolitan Club in Lagos.

 

This year’s CORFEPS WEEK is in three parts, spread over three days as follows:

 

Tuesday 5 March, 2024: The Colloquium at the Rotunda Conference Hall of the Tafawa Balewa House, Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be declared open by The President C-in-C as Special Guest of Honour.

The Morning Session will be chaired by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and former Minister of Finance His Majesty Samuel Oluyemi Falae, CFR, the Olu of Ilu-Abo & Baba Oba of Akure Kingdom, while the Afternoon Session will be chaired by H.E. Babagana Kingibe, GCON, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and former Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Wednesday 6 March 2924: Annual General Meeting, at the Atiku Hall, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, for CORFEPS members only;

Thursday 7 March 2024: Investiture of the Grand Patron, President C-in-C (Tentatively) CORFEPS Executive members only with the President

The Theme of the Colloquium is REFLECTIONS ON NIGERIA’S PUBLIC SERVICE: WAY FORWARD FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE

The Lead Speakers are:

1. Dr. Bukar Usman, OON a highly distinguished retired Perm Sec in the Presidency, who is to give the general overview

2. Dr. Timiebi Koripamo Agary, OON retired Perm Sec with a highly distinguished tour of duty as Perm Sec Federal Ministry of Labour, who will present the Insider’s Perspective

3. Mr. Martins Oloja, MD/Editor-In-Chief of The Guardian, Nigeria’s foremost Journalist on Public Policy, who will present the Outsider’s Perspective

There will be three Discussants, all retired Perm Secs, namely:

Izoma Philip Asiodu, not only belonged to what is now referred to as the golden/glorious era of the Nigerian Civil Service, he stands out as one of those whose courage and ability to speak truth to power made the post-independence civil service an institution that commanded the respect of not just their political masters but the populace as well.
