All is set for the Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly meeting in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The meeting will hold on Saturday, August 29, 2026 and will be hosted under the leadership of the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Lagos, Chief Leonard Okafor, Oba Ojoto.
The Ojo meeting marks the third in a series of zonal engagements designed to bring the leadership of Ohanaeze closer to Ndigbo at the grassroots. Two previous General Assembly meetings were successfully held in Isolo and Alimosho LGAs, and both drew large turnouts of Igbo leaders, women, and youth groups.
Preparations are ongoing at both the Ohanaeze secretariat on James Robinson Street, Surulere, and at the Ojo LGA chapter. Executive members, community leaders, and market executives are mobilizing members to ensure a large and peaceful gathering.
The Assembly is expected to address key issues affecting Ndigbo in Lagos, including security, welfare, business opportunities, and stronger integration with host communities.
Stakeholders across Lagos have praised the current executive led by Chief Leonard Okafor for what they described as a period of visible transformation and people-focused leadership.
Since assuming office, the Oba Ojoto-led administration has introduced several initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of Ndigbo in Lagos.
1. Health Insurance for Members
In a first-of-its-kind move, the executive partnered with reputable insurance companies to provide affordable health insurance packages for Ohanaeze members. The initiative is aimed at reducing out-of-pocket medical expenses and ensuring that members, especially the elderly and traders, have access to quality healthcare.
2. Empowerment and Skills Support
The executive has rolled out empowerment programmes for women and youth, including grants, vocational training, and business support. Several members have already benefited from cash grants and starter packs to boost small businesses across Lagos markets.
3. Unity and Grassroots Engagement
The regular zonal meetings in Isolo, Alimosho, and now Ojo are part of a deliberate strategy to take Ohanaeze to the people. The approach has strengthened communication between the secretariat and chapters, and given members a direct platform to present their challenges.
4. Improved Image and Partnerships
Under Chief Okafor, Ohanaeze Lagos has improved its relationship with government agencies, traditional institutions, and other ethnic groups. The organization is now seen as more organized, responsive, and focused on the progress of Ndigbo.
Community leaders have commended the president and his executive for restoring dignity to the office and prioritizing the welfare of members over politics.
The Ojo General Assembly is expected to attract elders, titled chiefs, women leaders, youth groups, and Igbo business owners in Ojo and across the state. Key discussions will focus on security, economic empowerment, education, and how to sustain the welfare programmes already introduced.
With the momentum from Isolo and Alimosho, expectations are high that the Ojo meeting will further unite Ndigbo in the western part of Lagos and consolidate the gains of the current leadership.
For many members, the message is clear: Ohanaeze under Chief Leonard Okafor, Oba Ojoto, is moving from mere representation to real impact.
