An artisan, Mr Ogunsanwo Mukaila, who was severely injured by the alleged negligence caused by an indigenous construction firm, JRB Construction Limited, has formally demanded compensation from the company, for rendering him incapacitated and unable to sustain his livelihood.
The artisan, who is critically lying in a hospital bed in a letter dated March 25, 2026, to the firm through his lawyer, Ademola Adefolaju of Lords & Temple law firm, claimed that he sustained the life-altering injuries on July 25, 2025, during the company’s construction activities on the 13-kilometer Igbogbo–Offin Oreta Road project.
The project, valued at ₦1.7 billion, is said to have been ongoing at the time of the incident. Alleging that the negligence on the part of the construction firm led to an accident involving a concrete mixer, which caused him severe injuries on both his left leg and hand. Adding that the injuries have left him incapacitated and his currently unable to continue his primary means of livelihood.
Ogunsanwo further stated that the company initially provided ₦3.65 million for medical treatment, but the money was insufficient, as he had spent an additional ₦1.65 million to cover urgent care costs. Adding that he still has surgical implants in his body and requires further medical procedures, for which he currently lacks funds.
In addition to the physical injuries, the injured man claimed that his motorcycle, his primary source of income, was damaged in the incident and has remained in police custody since the date of the accident.
His lawyer, Barrister Ademola, further argued that the company has failed to take full responsibility for the incident, resulting in prolonged hardship, financial strain, and suffering for their client.
Consequently, the injured man is demanding ₦50 million in general damages, alongside compensation for medical expenses, loss of income, and the repair or replacement of the damaged motorcycle.
The firm has been given a seven-day ultimatum to respond and comply with the demands or face legal action.
