Embattled Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, was today arraigned at the Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, over the sexual assault case against him.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that his arraignment followed the resumption of duty by Judicial workers, who had been on strike following industrial action to press for the autonomy of the Judiciary, their welfare and other issues.
It will be recalled that Baba Ijesha had been under fire since 22nd April, 2021, when the Lagos State Police Command announced his arrest for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in the care of popular comedienne, Adekola Adekanya, otherwise called Princess.
When the hearing of the case came up today at the Yaba Magistrate Court, Baba Ijesha’s Counsel, Kayode Olabiran, prayed the Court to release him citing his deteriorating health.
But in his ruling, the Presiding Magistrate, Peter E. Nwaka, held that the Court could not grant Baba Ijesha bail because the matter is beyond its jurisdiction.
The Magistrate explained that the case has already been filed before the High Court.
