Amb. Elijah Onyeagba Reveals Readiness To Effect Positive Shift In Nigeria-Burundi Diplomatic Relations

On Monday 28th June 2021, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Burundi, H.E Amb Elijah Onyeagba PhD, was a Guest on the popular Channels Television programme: DIPLOMATIC CHANNEL, to let Nigerians both home and in diaspora into the real picture of Burundi as a country full of investment opportunities.

Interacting during the programme hosted by Amarachi Ubani, the youngest serving Nigerian Ambassador, His Excellency Elijah Onyeagba PhD, took time to speak on his readiness to bring the best to the Nigerian Mission in Burundi. 

In his words, “There have been a lot of agitations in the country by young people, saying that they want to be given the opportunity to lead and be part of this responsibility. I have to prove them right, by being able to put up a good show, so that the leadership of our great country will re-affirm its trust in its younger generation.”  I wish to work in such a way that I will become an example to quite a lot of people especially the younger generation. I came prepared, ready and equipped to make a lasting impact in Nigeria’s diplomacy affairs”.

It is on record that Amb. Elijah Onyeagba, PhD, is the youngest serving Nigerian Ambassador. The Anambra born Economist and Policy Formulation expert was born 43 years ago. In his diplomatic  assignment, he has set the ball rolling in different areas in order to strengthen ties via bilateral business between Nigeria and Burundi. This, he is convinced will achieve the DIPLOMATIC CHARTER of his Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR.

It will be recalled that His Excellency Amb Elijah Onyeagba graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, with a Bachelors degree in Economics. He subsequently earned several Postgraduate degrees including a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from the University of Calabar, Cross Rivers State, a Masters in Applied Economics from the American University, Washington D.C. and a PhD in Economics (Public Policy) from Atlantic International University, Hawaii. 

           
Not surprisingly, within weeks of assumption of office, Amb Onyeagba has made giant strides. His office has successfully planned and set up the Inaugural Nigeria – Burundi Joint Commission slated to hold between 19th and 21st July 2021.

In the Joint Commission, both countries are expected to sign bilateral agreements on trade, health, education, security and political consultation.         

He enumerated some of the economic potentials of Burundi and the corresponding returns for Nigerian investors, using the country as a gateway to East Africa. 

As a young man, who is holding forth for younger Nigerians, Amb. Onyeagba encouraged them to be resilient, focused and steadfast in their ambitions to help make Nigeria better.
