In fulfillment of his pledge, Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the release of the sum of N20million to the Super Eagles Team B (CHAN Eagles) who were runners-up at the 2018 African Nations Championships held in Morocco early this year.
The Governor, who was in Morocco to watch the final match, had pledged to reward the team for their exemplary performance in reaching the finals despite all odds.
The Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Adedayo Tandoh who made this disclosure further stated that the official presentation of the cheque to the CHAN Eagles will take place soon.
Tandoh said that this commendable gesture by the sports loving Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has once again demonstrated his passion and unwavering commitment to sports development not only in Lagos State but in Nigeria as a whole.
It would be recalled that last year the Governor supported the Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) Football Club of Lagos for their 2018 CAF Champions League campaign with a donation of N50m and also approved the remodeling and modification of the Agege Stadium to meet the Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards.
Governor Ambode also financially supported the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in hosting the FIFA Executive Football Summit which was held in February 2018 along with the 1st NFF Football Awards, in Lagos.
