The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR, on the renaming of the Anambra Airport after the global literary icon and Novelist, Prof. Chinua Achebe.
In a letter addressed to the Governor by the Executive committee of the association signed by Camilus Ukah (National President) and Maik Ortserga (National Secretary), the Association described the move as, “remarkable and a departure from the status quo”.
Governor Soludo, in a historic Independence day speech on October 1, 2023 announced the renaming of the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri to the Chinua Achebe International Airport, Umueri. This singular act has received Local, National and global commendation with the latest coming from the members of the Association of Nigerian Authors, the apex body of Writers in the country.
The letter reads in part, “It is needless to say that by this latest honour to the champion of social justice, a man who was blessed with a ponderous intellect, delicate personality and goodness of heart, you have consolidated a legacy that will continually speak for your foresight”.
The Governor’s move is part of his social recalibration process which is intended towards creating a Society that honours excellence, hardwork and fortrightness.
