Ahead of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA primaries, the leading Gubernatorial aspirant, Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo, has continued to attract new converts. In Anambra PDP, aggrieved members have concluded plans to move to APGA in solidarity and give support to the APGA Gubernatorial frontliner.

The massive defections by disgruntled members of the opposition are looming amid indications that the members are unhappy with the manner the party is handling its internal affairs and selection process for the harmonised primary elections set for this year.

The major opposition party seemed more comfortable with Nwankpo, whom they described as the only Gubernatorial aspirant with no political garbage in the state.

Sources in the PDP confirmed to our reporter that some of the party’s chieftains from Anambra South were already in talks with APGA leaders in the zone while others including former House of Representatives member met with critical stakeholders.

The source said PDP leaders from Anambra South felt that the inability of the party to produce Governor in 2017 was due to internal crisis rocking the party, and have started to raise its ugly head.

According to the source,“Our PDP leaders are holding talks with APGA stakeholders in the area ready to publicly declare their total support in favour of Nwankpo’s gubernatorial ambition. They held that the sure way power would easily come to the South in 2022 is to support a strong Governorship aspirant in APGA.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that the APGA stakeholders met on Friday night for possible talks of organising a massive welcome rally for the decampees from PDP.The members of APGA in the  zone see a more powerful force in Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo and have formed a formidable alliance with him.

Media Adviser to the APGA Gubernatorial hopeful, Dr. Harris  Chuma, said his boss was overwhelmed with joy about the show of love and support he enjoyed from the people of Anambra South Senatorial zone. He said his boss would throw open his campaign office in Awka next week, and will be readily available to welcome the new converts.
