The enormous developmental investments being made by the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr Willie M. Obiano, in education have started yielding fruits. In 2017, a teacher from Abagana, Mr. Okodo Clement Nwoye, won the Presidential Teachers award and was decorated by President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by then Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu. The event took place at Eagle square Abuja on 6th October, 2017. It was a ground breaking achievement for the rewarded men and women who labour to develop the pupils and students in Anambra state positively.

On October 5, 2019, Anambra Teachers, Schools and School Administrators swooped numerous awards from the President for their tremendous performances in basic education in Nigeria. Flora Azikiwe Secondary School Neni in Anaocha LGA came top amongst all the public secondary schools in Nigeria. They were adjudged to be the best public Secondary school in Nigeria for 2019. They went home with a brand New Toyota bus as the prize. Also, the school administrator of Maria Regina Model Secondary school, Nnewi won the best school administrator in Nigeria.

More so, Mr. Izuegbuna Samuel of Community Secondary School, Owele Ezukala, was second runner up of the best teacher in Nigeria and won deep freezer and some house equipments. Mr. Gabriel Izuegbunam of British Springs School, Awka won the first runner up of best teacher in Nigeria (Private schools). The event was really an Anambra show.

However, these awards and achievements would not have been possible if not for the support and the investments of the State Governor, His Excellency Chief Willie M. Obiano. The Governor has been supporting both the schools managed by the missions and the secular schools. Few months ago, the Governor gave over 700 million Naira to mission schools in the state. The government continues to train the teachers on new and modern teaching skills. Recently, the Ministry of Basic Education trained over 5,000 teachers on ICT. Anambra teachers went for overseas trainings in order to broaden their teaching horizon. Teachers are paid their salaries and allowances as at when due. Anambra state government also pays special salary scale for teachers who teach special subjects and those in hard to reach areas. This serves as a super motivation for them to put in their best. Today, teaching profession is a noble profession in Anambra State.

Anambra schools and students have won international laurels in the past due to the attention given to education by the state government led by His Excellency Chief Willie Obiano. Anambra dignitaries to the event were led by the Commissioner For Basic Education, Prof Kate Omenugha.
