The Anambra State High Court has adjourned the criminal cases involving three prominent native doctors—Akwa Okuko, Eke Hit, and Onye Eze Jesus—until 11th April, 2025, following a hearing on 4th April, 2025.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Honourable Justice Jude Obiorah, who presiding over the case, revealed that the adjournment was necessary to allow for proper service and arraignment of the three defendants, who are accused of various criminal activities, including the preparation of Oke-ite, a traditional concoction, conspiracy and kidnapping.

The defendants in the case are Onyebuchi Okocha (Onyeze Jesus), Chidozie Nwangwu (Akwa Okuko), and Ekene Igboekweze (Eke Hit).

The defendants were arraigned separately before Honourable Justice Jude Obiorah, with their charges read aloud in a packed courtroom.

Following the court proceedings, Barrister Remigus Okoli, one of the defense counsels, addressed the media, alleging that the state government had orchestrated a move to remand the defendants.

He stressed that ensuring proper service and allowing the accused sufficient time to prepare their defense are fundamental rights, as guaranteed by the Constitution and relevant state laws.

Barrister Okoli further maintained that the law is on their side in defending the accused.

Counsel representing the state government, led by F.C. Okeke, could not be reached for comment following the proceedings.

The Anambra State Government, in its ongoing commitment to combatting criminal activities, has consistently focused on strengthening the judicial system to ensure swift and just prosecution of offenders. This case is part of the broader initiative to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety, while reinforcing the judiciary’s critical role in upholding the rule of law and maintaining order in the state.
