The Anambra Independent Media Support Group has launched Local Government election observation activities in Anambra with a call for peaceful elections that will reflect the will of the people.
At a Press Conference today in Awka, the Chairman of the Anambra Independent Media Support Group (AIMSG), Dr. Chuma-Odili Harris a.k.a Ogene Igbo, urged ndi Anambra to do their part to ensure that a peaceful and credible process takes place during LGA elections on 28th September.
There are many registered political parties contesting LGA elections, with over 1million registered voters expected at the polls.
Ogene Igbo said, “The eyes of more than 26 million people of Anambra State will be watching in solidarity and in hope of a transparent, fair and credible election”.
“I implore the candidates contesting in the LG elections at all levels to respect the choice of voters and accept the results of the elections as announced by ANSIEC [Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission], the agency empowered by law to do so.”
“Let me remind ndi Anambra not for the first time that this is the only state we have, and we must do everything to keep it safe, united and peaceful.”
“LG election is vital for our stability and democratic consolidation, I hereby urge all the stakeholders that the process be conducted and concluded safely, fairly and credibly.”
“I encourage all stakeholders to intervene proactively to calm any tensions and avoid any violence.”
Ogene urged the Chairman of ANSIEC, Mrs. Genevieve Osakwe, to ensure a level playing ground for all the participating political parties in the state while encouraging the electorate to participate actively and vote for their choice candidates on 28th September, 2024.
