Anambra’s Resources In The Last 24 Months: Promise Meets Action

MAZI EJIMOFOR OPARA

In the last 24 Months Much of Anambra’s Resources is contemplated by Governor Soludo in the following ways;

– He asks himself, “if this money was mine, will I spend it in this way?”
– Another question he throws at his listeners is “these monies we collect from Keke riders and Bus drivers, should we spend them in ways that do not meet the purpose for which they were collected?”

In the last 24months, it has become manifest that Governor Soludo’s insistence on managing prudently the resources of the State has brought about increased trust in government by the people. Just last week, the papers reported that a group of Keke riders embarked on an appraisal tour of road infrastructure in the State, and came out openly to pass a vote of confidence on Government, affirming that indeed, their tax money is at work see link below 👇

Anambra in the last 24 months has witnessed unprecedented open governance and high fiscal responsibility. The Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning has continually carried the citizens and stakeholders along in the budgeting process, providing clear indicators for the monitoring of Budget performance. And in the last two (2) full budget cycles of the current administration there has been intentional efforts at improving spendings in those of intense need by the people.

It is therefore not surprising, that a government that is yet to borrow a dime has increasingly shored up the capital expenditure side of the budget with the 2024 budget having a record high of 77% in capital expenditure. What all this grammar means to the woman in Oba-ofemili is that she can now for the first time in her existence experience the ease of moving her goods and farm produce from her hitherto hard to reach remote village to the city centre in a matter of minutes. What this means to the Onitsha trader is that government is breathing new life into the once dying city.

Overall, is Gov. Soludo was to leave office today, every penny of Anambra’s resources put in his care can be accounted for. He also, as promised, will be able to say, “I deployed these resources to better the life of ndi Anambra”.
