CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
Barely one week after a fake police officer was arrested and charged to court for obtaining N200,000 for recruitment scam, another fake officer has also been arrested for the same scam in Lagos. This time, the suspect Ahmed Abubakar has been arrested and charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court for allegedly obtaining N400,000.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect impersonated as a police officer and obtained the money from one Ajayi Oluwole under the false pretence that he will use the money to facilitate the recruitment of his brother, Adeyemi into the Nigeria Police.
However, the whole thing turned out to be a scam after Oluwole paid the money and that was the last time the victim saw Abubakar. It was gathered that Abubakar promised to go Abuja to complete the process but he was reported to have disconnected from the victim. He did not secure the police work for the suspect and did not refund the money to the victim.
The matter was reported to the police, Abubakar was trailed and later arrested. He reportedly confessed that he was not a police officer, he has equally spent the money and he did not know anybody in Abuja to recruit the victim into the Police.
Abubakar was charged to court for impersonation and obtaining under false pretence under the Criminal Code. He pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E. Adeyemi granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition. The matter was adjourned till 16th of October, 2017.
