Not too long ago, a student of the Lagos State Polytechnics reportedly took his life by gulping the contents of the container of an insecticide known as Sniper. On Friday 2nd August, 2019, another student identified as Opeyemi Grace Dara, of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in Osun State, reportedly died after taking the poisonous substance.
The university community was thrown into mourning as the news of the death of the female student filtered in.
The deceased, who was said to be in the Department of English and Literature, reportedly committed suicide after a dose of the lethal substance, Sniper.
According to information available to P.M.EXPRESS, it was gathered that the deceased, Opeyemi, took her life following her poor academic performance. The authorities of the institution also confirmed that the deceased must have committed suicide due to depression occasioned by her poor academic records.
A copy of her academic records obtained from her page on the school portal indicated that she had many outstanding courses. She was said to be having five outstanding courses and 12 Special Electives.
Opeyemi Grace Dara, who reportedly died on Friday, was said to be amongst the last graduating set of the Department of English and Literature in the university.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Segun Olanrewaju, confirmed the incident and promised that the institution would investigate the incident and make its findings public. He also advised students against taking their lives because of poor academic performance.
