Adebayo, the blind, duped by two separate women

Barely some days after a 29-year-old woman, Amina Aga was arrested and charged before a Lagos court for allegedly defrauding her visually-impaired Lover, Bamidele Adebayo, of N1.5 million, P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the same man has also been scammed by another woman.

It was gathered that Adebayo has lost another N1.2 million to a woman simply identified as Rose, said to be on the run now, on the false pretense of renting a shop to be paid for by the man, start a business venture, marry him and then take care of him as his wife.

The incident happened at Alhaji Ganiyu Lawal street in Ejigbo, Lagos where Adebayo resides before he got blind.

Adebayo, who was then smitten by Rose assumed caring and love, gave the money to her.

Rather than Rose to follow the plans she had highlighted for the man, she abandoned Adebayo immediately and ran away with the money.

According to Adebayo’s neighbours in a chat with our correspondent, it was Rose’s unfair treatment and escape that created room for Aga to move in into Adebayo’s house as new lover and subsequently led to his situation as fraud victim.

Our correspondent gathered that when Rose heard about what Aga did to Adebayo and that her name has been mentioned in the alleged fraud, she reportedly locked up her shop and absconded.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that when Adebayo met Plateau State-born Aga, he narrated his ordeal to her about how he became blind four years ago and how his wife abandoned him because of his situation.

Aga then promised to assist him to regain his sight by seeking treatment abroad.

She told him that the treatment would cost him around N5 million.

She asked Adebayo to bring any amount he could afford as she was ready to add the balance for the trip and the medical bill.

Instead, Aga on collecting the money from Adebayo, opted to travel to abroad but it was their neighbours who got wind of her plans that immediately contacted the police at Ejigbo Division.

Aga was arrested and taken to the station where the police’s investigation revealed that she actually obtained the money from Adebayo with plans to escape abroad.

She was asked to return the money but told the police she had used it to obtain traveling documents to Dubai.

She was brought to Ejigbo Magistrates Court recently and arraigned for stealing under the Criminal Code.

She pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Kenneth Asibor told the court that Aga should be given bail condition which will enable her to come to court to face trial for the interest of justice.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Adeyemi granted her bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in the like sum.

The court ordered her remand in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 16 May 2015.
