Ayamelum and Oyi Local Government areas have played host to the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) at the Oyi Local Government Headquarters, Nteje. The purpose of the visit, according to Chief Sir Anthony Nnalue Chinedu the ANSIEC commissioner in charge of information and publicity, was to know the position of ANSIEC offices in all local government areas.
He urged the Local Government Chairmen to provide all the necessary requirements needed in the offices in order to have security for the equipment that will be used in the upcoming election and also to assure the good people of Oyi and Ayamelum that the upcoming election is for everyone and not for a particular political party. He also urged the people, who see themselves competent, to go ahead and purchase a form for the election. He assured the crowd that they are independent and anyone that wins the election shall be announce and not the other way round.
Ayamelum Boss, Hon. Alphonsus Ofumelu, pleaded with stakeholders and other political parties to help the ANSIEC spread the news about the upcoming election (election must hold and vote must be cast) through ballot system, as there is nothing like a writing result. He assured everyone that the upcoming election must follow the due process and used the medium to seek for people’s support and promised that he will still come to them for their votes.
In his remarks, The Ayamelum Local Council Chairman, Hon. Alphonsus Ofumelu, stated that Ayamelum Local Government under his watch, is ready for the election and thanked ANSIEC for their resilience to deliver on the mandate given to them.
In his vote of thanks, the Oyi Local Government Chairman, Hon Emmanuel Ikechukwu Nweke, thanked the state governor, Prof Charles Soludo, for keeping to his campaign promise of conducting LG election. He praised the efforts and commitments of ANSIEC in their preparation for the election and promised the support of the good people of Oyi Local Government in making sure that a free and fair election is conducted by the commission.
