The event of APGA Primary election had a lot of talking points. Whichever you decide to start from would make an exciting prose of interesting literature. For me, I want to talk about the simple indicator of an overwhelming consensus in the build up to a democratic electioneering process.
The 21 Local Government Areas have varying number of Delegates with probably 30 as the mean. In all cases, Soludo won with over 90% margin. But, that would not be enough to a cheering audience who have unbeknownst to all defined success as 100% alone. Thus, in LGAs like Anambra East, Ogbaru, Ekwusigo and Onitsha North where total accredited Delegates were returned as total vote cast for Soludo alone, they became the cynosure and standard measurement for what is now the new definition of political victory.
The Delegation was a representative sample of the larger cravings of the Anambra people of all class, and creed. Though an all round victory for Soludo across the 21 LGAs, in LGAs where other Aspirants earned sparse votes of not more than a single digit, there was palpable distraught amongst them as they would bellow to themselves, “who is the Judas amongst us?”. In their mind’s eyes, any vote against Soludo was treacherous, they hoped it was a 100% mandate from them and would not have anything less.
For me, this is the best example of a people who are drawn to values. Soludo proposes a value over and above pecuniary inducements. They want to bequeath Charley Nwa Mgbafor the opportunity to begin the process towards a “Prosperous Homeland”. Convinced that he has all it takes to do this, the Delegates were anxious to give all, holding nothing back.
This is an overwhelming consensus. It is a big deal!
