A 20-year-old man, Idowu Ikumapayi, who is charged with gang-raping a teenage girl with others, still on the run, was on Thursday remanded in Kirikiri Prison, Lagos.
An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, which gave the ruling, said the accused should remain in prison custody pending when his bail application would be considered.
The accused, an apprentice, who resides at Amuwo Odofin area, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and rape.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu told the court that the offences were committed on April 1 at Moradeyo Street in Amuwo Odofin.
Ogu said the accused with other men still at large lured a 17-year-old girl into a hotel and gang-raped her.
“The girl could only recognise the accused and she reported the matter to her parents, who also reported to the police,” said the prosecutor.
The offences contravened Sections 259 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused risks life imprisonment on conviction.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, adjourned the case until May 8.
