The declaration of solidarity by 85 political appointees and nine mayors from Ukwa La Ngwa serving in the administration of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, sends a clear message to those seeking to create division between the Governor and his people. Their eight-point resolutions, released on Thursday, October 8, 2026, reaffirm confidence in the Governor’s leadership, endorse his development agenda and reject the exploitation of clannish sentiments for political gain.
The declaration challenges attempts by a few self-serving politicians to portray Ukwa La Ngwa as opposed to the Otti administration. It affirms that the clan’s interests cannot be reduced to the ambitions of individuals seeking political relevance.
Governor Otti’s commitment to rebuilding Abia transcends clannish, political and geographical boundaries. His responsibility is to ensure equitable development across the state through sustained investment in infrastructure, essential services and economic opportunities. The appointees’ recognition of development interventions across Abia, including Ukwa La Ngwa, reinforces the need to assess governance by its tangible impact on the people.
Equally important is their rejection of the weaponization of clannishness for political advantage. Abia’s history of poor governance and developmental setbacks should caution against divisive tactics that distract from the task of rebuilding the state. As Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, rightly observed, the consequences of 24 years of maladministration cannot reasonably be expected to disappear within three years. Rebuilding institutions, restoring infrastructure and regaining public confidence require sustained commitment and time.
The appointees’ affirmation that Ukwa La Ngwa sons and daughters are adequately represented in the administration and contribute meaningfully to its development agenda further counters claims of a fractured relationship. Their renewed support for Governor Otti’s re-election also underscores their confidence in his leadership and the direction of his administration.
Abia needs continuity in purposeful governance, not divisive politics driven by clannish sentiments and personal ambition. Governor Otti must sustain equitable development across the state, while political actors should be judged by their performance and commitment to the common good.
Ultimately, the October 8 resolutions reaffirm that Abia’s future must be determined by results, fairness and inclusive development, not ethnic sentiments or the ambitions of a few.
