Reigning African Women Footballer of the Year, Nigerian Queen on the pitch, Asisat Oshoala was at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja to celebrate the New Year day with the Lagos State First Family, Mr and Mrs Akinwunmi Ambode.
Oshoala MON, a Nigerian professional footballer who plays for Chinese side Dalian Quanjian F.C. in the Chinese Women’s Super League as a forward, was at the Lagos House to felicitate with her godmother, Mrs Bolanle Ambode, who has been a strong pillar of support for her pet project, Asisat Oshoala Foundation. The foundation has been organising an annual Asisat Oshoala Lagos State Secondary School Football Clinic, otherwise known as Football4Girls Clinic to teach Lagos school girls the rudiments of football for them to have a future career in the round leather game.
Mrs Ambode and the Governor were so glad to see her at the New Year day party. Oshoala, who hails from Ikorodu in Lagos State, recently won the African Women’s Nations Cup with the Nigeria’s Super Falcons in Ghana. She is in serious contention for the 2018 African Women’s Player of the Year. Also in contest for the award are compatriot Francisca Ordega, and South African Chrestinah Thembi Kgatlana.
“Oshoala, winner for the past two years with three titles overall (2014, 2016, 2017) has her sights on a fourth title, to equal the feat of compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha (2004, 2005, 2010, 2011). The 24-year old helped Nigeria to successively defend their title during the Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana last December,” CAF said of the Nigerian star in a statement.
