The much awaited fourth edition of Asisat Oshoala Grassroots Women Championship will kick off on 24th December, 2018, at St Jude’s Primary School football ground, Ilasamaja, Mushin.

The tournament, which is sponsored by Nigerian striker and a member of Super Falcons, Asisat Oshoala, will feature eight female teams across Lagos State. Among the teams registered for the tournament are Owo- Igbe Queens, Aseyori Queens, Adex Queens, Lacamura Queens, Phonix Queens, Victory Queens, Lakeside Queens and Epe Ladies.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Emmanuel Osahon, confirmed to P.M.EXPRESS that Mushin will witness a glamorous and exciting female tournament during Christmas and urged football fans to come out in large numbers to cheer the ladies.

“It is going to be an exciting championship among the eight female teams in Lagos. We have selected the teams based on their football pedigree in Lagos and the cup donor, Oshoala, is committed to promoting female football at the grassroots level in Lagos. It is going to be a tough competition because all the teams stand the chance to reach the final stage,” he said.

The former goalkeeper of First Bank FC explained that Oshoala is sponsoring the competition as a way of her contribution to the female football development in Lagos and urged the other Super Falcons players to emulate Oshoala’s initiative.

“We should not forget in hurry that Oshoala started her football career in Mushin and she told me that she wants to sponsor female tournament in Mushin as a way of giving back to the society. Oshoala has done well in promoting female football in Mushin in the last three years and I will love other players who are well to do to follow her footsteps so that our female footballers would be busy during the yuletide period,” he said.

The draws ceremony to determine how the teams would play will hold on Friday at St Jude’s Primary School, Ilasamaja, Mushin.
