The Stand Up for Women Societies (SWS) has kicked against inhumane treatment meted on Mrs Joy Owolabi who was assaulted by officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jos Plateau State
The incident happened at the Nanmwa Junction, Abattoir Area in Jos South Local Government Area on Friday, September 2, 2022.
The National President of SWS Barr. Deborah A. Ijadele-Adetona condemned the act in totality and views it as inhuman, barbaric and a violation of the fundamental human rights and dignity of Mrs. Owolabi.
The SWS, therefore, calls for justice for Mrs Owolabi and urges all individuals, human rights organisations, stakeholders and right-thinking Nigerians to condemn the assault and unwarranted harassment from an Officer who is enshrined by the law to protect and ensure the safety of Nigerian citizens.
“It is nothing but an abuse of power and a gross violation of fundamental human rights.
“The SWS, therefore, calls on all women associations, media organisations, Civil Society Organisations (CSO’s) and well-meaning Nigerians to join in the call for justice for Mrs Owolabi.
“The SWS also calls on the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and NSCDC to engage in a full-fledged and immediate investigation into the matter.”
