Athletics: Media Accreditation Process Opens For Asaba 2018 African Tourney

The media accreditation process for the Asaba 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships has officially commenced.

The Media and Publicity Sub-Committee of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) is launching the media accreditation procedure for written press, photojournalists and other non-right holder members of the press intending to cover the championships billed for Asaba, Delta State.

Already, journalists from across the continent have started putting in their application to be part of what many believe will be the biggest African Senior Athletics Championships ever.

Olukayode Thomas, Head of Communications and Media in a statement on Tuesday enjoined all interested journalists to start the application process on time to avoid last-minute hassles.

He said: We kindly advise that the interested journalists should fill out one registration form for each member of their team; group or team application will not be accepted.

 “The deadline for applications for media accreditation, media car park sticker and media hotel accommodation is June 30, 2018.

“International media news agencies in Nigeria (CNN, BBC, Aljazeera, AFP, AP, Reuters, and others) will be contacted by the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee of the Local Organizing Committee in due course,” he added.

Thomas explained that the accreditation is not automatic as the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee has set criteria for applicants.

 According to him, pedigree in the coverage of athletics and background security checks are some of the of the criteria that would be used in approving accreditation.

The Head of Communications and Media also stated that the quota for photographers is limited;  hence photojournalists from national and international media houses and agencies will be given preference.

Approved accreditation applications will be activated at the Main Accreditation Centre against a valid identity proof.

Already, it has been stated that Non-Rights Holders will only be allowed to bring cameras and/or recording equipment onto the event site for the purpose of carrying out non live reports.

There will be no access with this camera to the stands or any location with view to the live action.

Also, the deadline for booking accommodation in the official media hotels is June 30, 2018, while for Media Friends outside Nigeria, the accreditation will serve as their visa.

The Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta State, will host the Asaba 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships from August 1-5.
