A staff of a commercial bank, Adamu Ibrahim, has been arrested as the prime suspect over the alleged murder of his 24-year old wife, Fatima Alhaji-Bukar, at their residence in Dikechiri, Bayan Gidan Dambe area of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Ibrahim, was arrested alongside his friend, Bukar Diya, after both of them took Fatima’s corpse to the Gwange Division of the Police to report about her murder on 18th October, 2023.
The husband, Ibrahim, had told the Police that he found his wife lying in a pool of her own blood after he returned from work at about 5:00pm on that day.
This was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sani Kamilu, who said that the suspects were in Police custody undergoing interrogation over the alleged murder as subsequent investigations revealed that the husband is the prime suspect in the murder of his wife.
He said, “On October 18, 2023, one Adamu Alhaji Ibrahim of Dikechiri Bayan Gidan Dambe area Maiduguri went to Gwange Division, accompanied by one Bukar Wadiya, conveying the body of a woman, whom he claimed to be his wife and sought for an emergency help from the Police”.
“The husband, who claimed to be a staff member of a commercial bank in Maiduguri, came back from work at about 5:00pm and found the deceased lying down in a pool of her own blood,” he said.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that before the incident, the couple had some domestic disputes over alleged extramarital affair by the husband at their matrimonial home.
He explained that the house, where the incident happened was secured and during a search, some exhibits were recovered including one short pestle, a bag, rope, a rug carpet stained with blood, a knife, a Honda vehicle and a mucus stained pillow.
ASP Kamilu said that there was no evidence of constructive breakage or entry into the house and only the husband had the key to the house.
He said that the husband and Bukar Wadiya were both arrested as prime suspects, noting that a discreet investigation was ongoing to unravel the killers.
The Police image maker stated that the suspects will be charged before the Court for the alleged murder under the Criminal law of the State, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
