Battles for Q/Finals Hot Up At Ekofootball Women Championship

The battles for who picks the two available tickets in the groups for the quarter-final stage continue this weekend at the ongoing 2017 Ekofootball Women Championship, tagged “Lagos for Her Season 2” as St Joseph Private School take on Dream Stars Football Academy at Onikan Stadium, Lagos on Sunday.

Royaltom Football Club will square up against Spring Soccer Academy in the second match of the day. Phoenix Queens football club will play against Adex Queens FC for the three points at stake, while Ijamido Queens football club battle Victory Queens football club in the last match of the day.

Speaking on the championship, Wale Joseph, chairman of the Women Football Committee of the Lagos State Football Association, LSFA, expressed satisfaction with the standard of play so far in the championship.

He stated that the championship has produced  35 goals so far, adding that all the participating clubs, officials and players have displayed high level of discipline both on and off the field of play.

Speaking further, Joseph, who also doubles as the chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee disclosed that the championship, which kicked off with a seminar, has enjoyed lots of patronage from individuals and few organizations, charging corporate bodies to come out and support the committee in its effort to give hope to the young ladies who hope to make a career in football.

“From what we have seen so far, from the beginning of the tournament, there is so much talents waiting to be discovered, hence the need for both corporate organizations and individuals to come out and support this noble cause of discovering the next sets of Super Falcons players, ” he said.

Meanwhile, Victory Queens football club and Ijamido Queens football club are both leading in Group B after two rounds of matches, with 6 points each. Victory are leading the group on a goals difference, scoring 7 goals, conceding only 1, while Ijamido scored 6 goals and conceded just 1.

AB Shooting Angels football club and Lakeside Queens football club are third and fourth on the log with no points after both sides lost their first two matches.

In group A, Young Talent 99 football club lead the group with 6 points, while Phoenix Queens FC and Adex Queens FC are in the third position with 3 points each.
