It was a perfect Xmas/New Year gifts for some residents of Ifako Ijaiye Federal Constituency who were recently affected by a flood disaster that hit the area during the rainy season.

They were presented with some relief materials through the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) facilitated by the member representing the Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable James Adisa Owolabi.

“This indeed is a perfect Xmas/New Year gifts to these people and we’ve to give kudos to Honourable Owolabi for facilitating this event. It’s the first of its kind in this Federal Constituency,” Mr Kamoru Adekunle Sunmonu, Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifako Ijaiye Local Government said.

Speaking at the event, Honourable Owolabi stated that his mission in the House of Representatives is to engage in activities that will continue to bring dividends of democracy to his people.

“I was really disturbed when the flood disaster occurred and I made up my mind to ensure that my people get the needed succour. I liaise with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila who has been of immense support. We got in touch with NEMA, their officials came for assessment and they found out that our claims are authentic, here we are,” he explained.

Owolabi assured the residents further that he has been able to get approval for the construction of a canal that will link Ifako Ijaiye to the bigger canal linking Agege and Ikeja in order to ease flood in the area.

“I want to assure you that I’m committed to promoting your welfare and ensuring that you get the necessary and needed dividends of democracy right at your doorsteps,” he said.

Owolabi told his audience that very soon, the Minister of Youth and Sport Development, Mr Sunday Dare, will visit Vetland School Complex.

“We are working for the construction of an ICT centre in the school and a youth centre,” he said.
Each beneficiary went home with roofing sheets, 25-litre palm oil, packs of nails, ceiling board, mattress, blanket, rice, garri and beans.

“We are very grateful to Honourable Owolabi for this laudable gesture and we commend him. This is a perfect Xmas/New Year gift for us,” some of the beneficiaries told this medium.
