The Akwa Ibom-Nigerian born, Unites States based pugilist Enobong “The Nigerian Gentleman” Umohette has continued his remarkable comeback trail with another victory in faraway Mexico over the weekend at Evolution Club, Tijuana Mexico.
Umohette squared off against Tijuana regional heavyweight champion Brayan “El trueno” Lomeli in an 8-round battle which had the roaring audience on their feet throughout the contest.
While the largely pro-Lomeli hometown crowd cheered their fighter and kept the atmosphere electrified, Umohette dominated the hometown champion with ring generalship, lateral movement, effective aggression, speed, and superior fight IQ.
An Umohette left hook which floored Lomeli in the 7th round; but ruled a slip, put Lomeli in survival mode for the remainder of the fight and into the 8th and final round.
Umohette won the contest via a decision on points.
Speaking from his base in Wisconsin, Umohette thanked God for the victory and described the fight as a career milestone; having fought a full 8 rounds for the first time in his professional boxing career. He thanked his head coach Mr. George Offiong who monitored remotely, his fight entourage who led him into battle; Ms. Rhonda Yates, Jeremiah “The Beast” Williams, and coach Richard Mason and also thanked his promoter Erik Fleming for the tremendous support for his career. He also thanked his supportive family for backing his ongoing comeback bid and the many Akwa Ibomites and Nigerians who have continued to support his inspiring journey.
Umohette seized the opportunity to thank His Excellency Óbong Victor Attah the former Governor of his native home state of Akwa Ibom, whom he described as his adoptive father, political mentor, and leadership icon who has been a pillar of support to him for over two decades.
The Nigerian gentleman also commended the current Governor of his native Akwa Ibom State; His Excellency Pastor Umoh Eno for dynamic leadership and making tremendous investments in youth development through sports and sporting initiatives.
Heavyweight Championship veteran fighter Jeremiah “The Beast” Williams disclosed that Umohette had just passed a critical career test and was now ready to join him in the elite 10 to 12-round championship-level boxing.
Umohette is scheduled to fight again in March 2024.
