MICHAEL AKINOLA

A 13-year old boy has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly engaging his neighbour’s 8-year old girl in sex.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the boy has been arrested and charged before the Court for defilement under the Criminal law of the State.

The incident happened at Akerele Street, Onigbongbo area of Ikeja, Lagos, where they reside.

According to the Police, the boy lured the victim when her parents were not around and engaged her in sex. But the information leaked to her parents who confronted the girl and she revealed what happened.

The matter was reported to the Police at Ikeja Division. The boy was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct against the victim.

While being interrogated, the suspect admitted that he did so with her consent because she was his girl friend. But the Police insisted that he defiled the victim by penetration and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, ordered his remand in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned till 14th January, 2025, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.

The name of the boy and the victim were not disclosed because they are still minors in line with the policy of P.M.EXPRESS.
