MICHAEL AKINOLA

A 16-year old boy has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly engaging his neighbour’s 5-year old girl in sex before he was caught by one of their neighbours, who reported the matter to the victim’s parents.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the boy has been arrested and charged for defilement, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.

The incident happened at Popoola Street, Ikotun area of Lagos, where they reside.

According to Police, the boy lured the victim to a place where he removed her pants and penetrated her in the process. But while they were still in the act, they were caught by one of their neighbours, who informed the victim’s parents.

The victim’s parents were so angry over the boy’s conduct and reported the matter to the Police at Ikotun Division. The operatives moved into action, arrested the boy and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Ex. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.

The names of the defendant and victim were withheld in line with the policy of P.M.EXPRESS because they are still minors under the Criminal law of the State.
