Police operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, Lagos, have arrested a 19-year old boy, Emmanuel Victor, for allegedly having sex with his neighbour’s 16-year daughter and was caught in the act.
P.M.EXPRESS reports the incident happened at Kuza Street, Ladi-Lak area of Bariga, Lagos, where they reside.
The girl’s parents became so angry after they realized that Victor had engaged their daughter in a sex romp and she lost her virginity in the process, that they went to the Police at Pedro Division and reported that their daughter was raped by Victor.
The suspect, Victor, was arrested and transferred to the SCID to explain why he should have sex with the girl, who is still a minor.
During interrogation, Victor told the Police that she was his girlfriend and they have been having sex before they were eventually caught in the act. But that did not save him because he was found culpable and subsequently charged before the Ebute Metta Magistrates Court for statutory rape, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.
However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Paul, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice since the victim is still a minor.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.M. Ajayi, ordered his remand in the Correctional Centre pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP, while the matter was adjourned pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
