Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) have long been recognised as a pivotal means to engage parents in their children’s educational journey.

In a remarkable display of parental involvement and commitment to their child’s development, Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board ( KWSUBEB) schools under the KwaraLEARN programme hosted the Term 3 (2022/2023 Academic Year) Parent-Teacher Conference on Friday, 28 July 2023.

Spanning 10 Local Government Areas, the event witnessed a record-breaking attendance of 25,494 parents and guardians, underscoring the growing importance of these conferences in fostering a collaborative approach to basic education.

KwaraLEARN is Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s flagship education programme aimed at radically improving learning outcomes for public school children across the state, providing a quality and holistic education that empowers pupils to thrive academically and personally.

KwaraLEARN seeks to transform all government primary schools into powerful institutions using innovative technology, data-driven platforms, high-quality learning materials, effective training, and ongoing coaching for teachers and school leaders.

In Term 2, the PTC drew an impressive attendance of over 20,000 parents and guardians, setting a positive precedent for parental engagement.

However, the latest Term 3 conference witnessed an even greater turnout, with over 25,000 parents actively participating in the event.

During the conference, KwaraLEARN teachers went beyond mere assessment scores, providing parents with a comprehensive overview of their child’s academic progress and overall development.

In these insightful sessions, teachers discussed not only academic performance but also delved into each and every pupil’s strengths, weaknesses, behaviour, and social skills.

This holistic approach allowed parents to gain a deeper understanding of their child’s learning journey, helping them identify areas where additional support might be needed and reinforcing the importance of a well-rounded education.

Mrs Fatima Adebayo, a delighted parent who attended the conference, expressed her appreciation for the event’s comprehensive approach.

“The PTC was an eye-opener for me. I now have a better understanding of my child’s strengths and weaknesses, and I feel equipped to support her more effectively in her studies and personal development. It’s comforting to know that the school and teachers genuinely care about my daughter’s progress.”

KwaraLEARN Schools Director, Segun Sanusi, praised the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, stating, “We were thrilled to see such a massive turnout of parents at the conference. It highlights the shared commitment of parents and teachers in nurturing our pupils’ potential. The Parent-Teacher Conference was an enriching experience. It demonstrated how KwaraLEARN teachers and parents can work together to ensure our children’s success.”

Research has consistently highlighted the positive impact of parental involvement on a pupil’s academic performance, motivation, and overall well-being.

During the conference, Mrs Gbadeyan Damilola Opeyemi, a teacher at Tanke A LGEA School, Ilorin, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We were thrilled to see such a massive turnout of parents at the conference. It highlights the shared commitment of parents and we, the teachers, in nurturing our pupils’ potential.”

Mr Abdulsalam Abdulganiyu, the Headteacher of the school, added, “The Parent-Teacher Conference was an enriching experience. It demonstrated how our teachers and parents can work together to ensure our pupils’ success.”

One of the key takeaways from the conference was the importance of parental involvement in reinforcing learning outcomes at home.

By aligning home-based efforts with classroom learning, parents become influential partners in their child’s overall growth.

The remarkable turnout for the Parent-Teacher Conference emphasised the strength of the partnership between KWSUBEB, KwaraLEARN, School Leaders, and Parents.

The event showcased the growing recognition of KwaraLEARN among communities and parents and the conference’s significance in fostering a strong collaboration between tutors and families.

As the Term 3 Parent-Teacher Conference came to a close, KwaraLEARN expressed gratitude to all the parents and guardians who participated.

The record-breaking attendance signifies the shared responsibility in preparing the pupils for a successful future.

KwaraLEARN remains committed to further enhancing parental engagement initiatives and ensuring that each pupil receives the support and guidance needed to achieve their full potential.

Remember, with KwaraLEARN, Every Child Counts!
