Buruj Sports Academy recorded two wins in their first two group B games against St. Joseph FC and Cardiff Draconians respectively on the opening day of this year’s edition of Welsh International Super Cup which got underway at the Cardiff City University Sports complex on Thursday.

While the game against St. Joseph ended 2-1, the English Super Cup finalist brushed aside another home side Cardiff Draconians by four goals to nil to put themselves in a vantage position to make it to the knock-out stage coming up on Saturday.

Irrepressible playmaker Azeez Oseni opened his account of the competition in the first game against St. Joseph while Baseet Adebayo playing in the midfield scored the second of the game after beating the opposition goalkeeper with a fine lob from a free-kick.

Azeez produced another hattrick in the second encounter against Cardiff Draconians, just as Sina Daniel was the scorer of the fourth goal as his long range strike flew into the back of the net to send the spectators who thronged in to watch the event that is being widely described here as festival of football into moment frenzy.

After coming short in their quest to defend their English Super Cup title last weekend in Manchester following their loss in the final game against champions Rochdale FC, the Nigerian representatives demonstrated their readiness to go all the way in the Wales capital under a very fine weather, and if the performance in the first two games of the tourney being organized by Team Tours Direct is any to be considered, then the rest opponents have been given something to ponder on.

Action resumes on Friday morning as Buruj Sports Academy take on Pentwyn Dynamos on Friday to determine the group B winner ahead of the knock-out stage.

The CEO of the academy, Salaudeen Waheed, hailed the indomitable spirit exhibited by his young side while reacting on the individual and collective performances of Day-One, adding that nothing will stop the boys from winning the Welsh Super Cup.
