A commercial bus driver, Mr. Falade Oluwasegun may be spending the next 12 months in prison custody for driving against traffic and operating without driver’s licence in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the outcome of the judgment of the court for his conduct which seemed to have endangered the lives of the passengers on the high way in Lagos.
It was gathered that the now convict was apprehended on the highway by the police, taken to court and sentenced accordingly over the traffic offence.
The convict had admitted and pleaded guilty of not having a driver’s licence and other valid documents before the Isolo Magistrates court, Lagos.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Teluwo wondered as a driver how he would be operating on the highway without those documents, found him guilty and sentenced accordingly.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that apart from serving the jail term with an option of N50,000, Oluwasegun was ordered to undergo two weeks driving training at the Oshodi Training Institute to determine whether he was fit to drive on the highway or not. He was also ordered to do community service as punishment at Ijesha area to serve as deterrent to other drivers.
Oluwasegun who is now cooling his head at the prison custody, was arrested at Ijesha area of Lagos while using his bus with registration number MUS 718XE to carry passengers and drove against traffic. He arrested, taken to the police station where the police requested for his particulars and he confessed that he had none.
He was then taken to the court where he pleaded guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Oje Uagbale presented the facts and asked the court to sentence him accordingly to serve as deterrent to other drivers who operate on the highway without valid documents and proper training.
The court found him guilty and sentenced him accordingly and he was taken to prison custody at Kirikiri, Lagos.
