Concerned bus drivers plying Ajah from Obalende, CMS and the Mainland area of Lagos State have appealed to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to as a matter of urgency provide logistics for the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, LASTMA personnel same as his government is providing for other security agencies in Lagos State.
According to some of those who spoke with our correspondent at Ajah, Lagos Island and Mainland area, they decided to speak out due to the worrisome state of seeing LASTMA personnel using hired seven passenger buses popularly called ‘Korope’ for their operations.
They said the use of hired buses by the LASTMA personnel is not only an eyesore, but denting the good image of the Lagos State Government as the State of Centre of excellence.
The concerned bus drivers appealed to Governor Sanwo-Olu to provide logistics for these LASTMA personnel to stop the erroneous believe by the public and bus drivers that LASTMA personnel operating with hired ‘Korope’ were on illegal duty.
They claimed their findings revealed that these personnel resorted to hiring buses for operations due to lack of operational vehicles for them to perform their duty.
The drivers commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his various achievements, especially in the area of ongoing road reconstruction in all parts of Lagos State and the zeal with which he battled COVID-19 pandemic to save the lives of Lagosians.
They however urged the Governor to complete his achievements by providing logistics for the LASTMA personnel to perform their duty to avoid clashes with bus drivers who ignorantly believe that every LASTMA personnel operating with ‘Korope’ bus were on illegal duty.
The drivers also praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for appointing a LASTMA insider, Mr Bolaji Oreagba, who they described as a down-to-earth disciplinarian and incorruptible as the head of LASTMA, adding that with the appointment of Oreagba as LASTMA boss, all the public negative believe about the LASTMA would soon be a thing of the past.
Some of the drivers who spoke with our correspondent included Mr Eliaja Obioma, Christian Obi, John Omem, Okechukwu Okoro and Kingsley Ibeabuchi.
They however appealed to bus drivers plying Lagos metropolis to continue to obey traffic rules and refrain from further attacking LASTMA personnel on the flimsiest excuse.
These set of drivers advise their colleagues to report any erring LASTMA personnel to the head, Oreagba for prompt action because he is a listening leader they have known since 2007 when he was a commander at Olowu LASTMA office.
